Berea

A Bible study companion that builds a study from a passage or a topic — and checks every verse it quotes against the actual text before you ever see it. Organized around scripture and cross-references, never opinions.

Named for Acts 17:11 — the Bereans who “examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” That's the whole design principle in one verse.

Why Berea

Organized around scripture, not opinions.

Most study apps either hand you someone else's take, or leave you with a blank page and a search bar. Berea sits in between — it helps you build a study, but every quote is checked against the actual text before you ever see it, and every question is written to make you look at scripture, not to tell you what it means.

That check is the whole point. Scripture is never left to the model to recall: verses are retrieved from the text on your device, passed into the prompt, and every quote that comes back is compared word for word against that same text. What matches is marked verified. What doesn't is flagged, not quietly published.

In the App Today

One study format, built around the text.

Berea isn't released yet, but these are built and working — not concepts.

🔖

Verified Citations

Verses are pulled from the local text first and handed to the model — then every quote it returns is re-checked, word for word, against that same text. Matches get a gold verified badge; anything that doesn't match is flagged before you can save or share it. A prompt is a request; this is a check.

📕

Passage or Topic

Build a study from a book and chapter range, or start from a theme like Relationships, Forgiveness, Anxiety, or Grief. Pick your audience and how many lessons you want, and the study is drawn across the whole Bible rather than one corner of it.

💬

Conversation Prep

Talking points to consider raising in a real conversation with someone who doesn't share your faith — not a script, not a debate rebuttal, and grounded in the same verified citations as any study guide.

📶

A Bible That Works Offline

The full KJV ships inside the app — books, chapters, and verses, with no account and no signal required. Reading never waits on a network. Swipe or tap straight on to the next chapter, across book boundaries, without going back out to a chapter list.

🔗

Cross-References & Topics

Tap any verse to see which topics it belongs to and where else scripture speaks to it. Hundreds of thousands of cross-references and a curated topical index are bundled on-device, so following a thread is instant.

📝

Notes & Bookmarks

Keep private notes on any verse or lesson, bookmark what you want to come back to, and pick a study up mid-lesson where you left it. All of it stays on your device.

Multiple Translations

Five translations now, more as licensing lands.

Berea reads in KJV, ASV, WEB, BSB, and NET. Switch the whole reader from the header without losing your place, or compare a single verse across all five inline. An ESV licensing request is in progress, with further translations to follow.

One deliberate limit, stated plainly: citation verification runs against the KJV text. View a verse in another translation and Berea drops the verified badge rather than implying it checked something it didn't.

Planned

Not built yet — but where this is going.

Listed here so it's clear what's real today and what isn't.

👥

Lead a Group

Share a study with a small group you facilitate — leader's-guide notes visible only to you, participants seeing the shared guide plus a private place for their own notes. Not started; sharing and sync are a later phase.

🏠

Family Devotion

A nightly rhythm instead of a multi-week course — short, age-tuned studies for walking your own kids through scripture at the table, with a streak instead of a week count. Studies can already be aimed at a family audience; the nightly mode itself is still ahead.

Screens

From the current build.

Real captures, not renders. Berea is pre-release, so layouts and copy will keep changing before launch.

Still early. Worth the wait.

Berea is in active development for iOS and Android. No release date yet — we'd rather ship it right than ship it fast.
